Pangai Noon Karate – vol. III
Advanced Kata
by Shinyu Gushi
Shinyu Gushi, 9th Dan, began his study of Pangai Noon Uechi karate in the early fifties with instructors Saburo Uehara, Seiyu Shinjo, and Kanei Uechi, the son of the founder of Pangai Noon Uechi karate. A half century later he maintains the tradition of teaching individuals or small groups of students in private, believing that authentic karate should not be influenced by the need to attract students, or other commercial considerations. The art he teaches is undeniably ancient, its roots stretching back to 19th century China, and beyond. Pangai Noon Uechi is a martial art in the true sense of the word. Powerful, effective, and devoid of any hint of sporting endeavor, it is shown here in its original, unadulterated form by this highly respected teacher.
This Program Includes:
Kata: Seiru, Kanchin, and Seisan with applications.
Pangai Noon Karate – vol. IV
Weapon Arts
by Shinyu Gushi
This fourth part of the Pangai Noon Uechi karate series begins with the advanced kata Sanseru and continues with karate weapons training. Although principally an unarmed art, karate also encompasses the use as weapons of implements that once formed part of the daily lives of Okinawans. Wielded by a skilled practitioner they add a new dimension to karate techniques. The staff can be used to strike, thrust, and ward off an armed assailant; the oar’s blade delivers a powerful, focussed blow, and can also be used to throw sand in the face of an enemy to distract or blind him; the metal sai is employed offensively by striking and thrusting, and defensively by blocking and trapping. As the author shows, even the hair ornament or jiffa, worn by all Okinawan men until the latter part of the 19th century, can be used as a device to augment the power of karate techniques.
This Program Includes:
Sanseru; Seijun No Bo; Akacchu Eku; Matsugawa no Sai; Jiffa.
Pangai Noon Karate – vol. V
Body Conditioning & Training
by Shinyu Gushi
Karate first came to the attention of the world when a Japanese military doctor noticed that a number of Okinawans had physiques very different from the average recruit. Powerfully built and physically tough, their suitability as soldiers at a time when Japan was building its first modern army led to the introduction of their art, karate, into the educational system in the earliest years of the 20th century.
Since that time the practice of karate had been embraced by people of all nations, and it is ironic therefore that strength training and body conditioning, the aspects of the art that led to its discovery, have been almost completely forgotten by all but a few of its most senior masters.
This video reveals the deepest and most ancient secrets of karate. How to develop irresistible power, how to forge weapons of the hands & feet, and perhaps, most important of all, how to develop the will to overcome anything through the austere and frequently mysterious training methods of traditional karate.
Shinyu Gushi, 9th Dan, started training in the early 1950s with karate legends Kanei Uechi, Saburo Uehara and Seiyu Shinjo. He is one of the most senior living masters of Pangai Noon/Uechi Ryu karate.
This Program Includes: Preparatory and supplementary exercises, fighting strategy, the development of a powerful grip, how to condition the fists and fingers, strength training with a partner, sanchin, as well as the breaking of hard objects with the hands, toes, and shins.
