Demonstration of Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu Roppokai Seigo OKAMOTO sensei.
Add. informationA: When I entered Kodo-kai (dojo of Kodo HORIKAWA sensei) and started practicing Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu, I had no basic knowledge of Daito-ryu. Not knowing what it was, I devoted myself to mastering a technique that I regarded as very mysterious for many years. It was almost 10 years since I started taking HORIKAWA-sensei’s Kodo lessons before I found my techniques to be effective. In those days, the typical training method was exercising with no explanation, so I was often confused.
Some of my students have 5 to 20 years of experience in other martial arts. However, according to them, it was difficult for them to understand my Daito-ryu techniques, which I inherited from Kodo HORIKAWA (who inherited them from Sokaku TAKEDA, the greatest and inimitable master). They also said that they had difficulty understanding, even if I explained the techniques 2 or 3 times.
After Sokaku TAKEDA taught his students Daito-ryu, the essence of Daito-ryu was transformed by the degree of their own understanding, sensations and abilities. When I first entered the Kodokai, I witnessed 4 or 5 big senior students attacking Kodo HORIKAWA Sensei and everyone was immediately abandoned. Since Master HORIKAWA was just under 60 inches tall (60 x 2.54 cm = 152.4 cm), I could hardly believe my eyes and suspected that they were giving in. And although I was larger than average build and had some strength, the moment I touched the teacher’s fingers, I lost my balance, fell on my back and felt as if my breathing had stopped. I found that this is not a hoax. Since I trusted my own experience, I deliberately practiced HORIKAWA Sensei’s techniques, ignoring criticism from outside.
Although these techniques are extremely difficult to understand, the moment you master them, you find them very rational and find that they do not require the use of physical force.
