Dr. Michael Brown and Dr. Logan Banks will host a live webinar and they will discuss international medicine and in particular practicing medicine in Burundi. Ā Dr. Brown will lead a Q&A discussion with Dr. Banks. Ā Dr. Banks will share his experiences with practicing medicine in Burundi by answering a series of questions by Dr. Brown. Ā
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the factors that might attract someone to practice international medicine and, particularly, in Burundi.
- Identify the biggest hurdles someone might face when practicing international medicine.
- Describe extra training that someone might need or be required to take to practice international medicine in a country like Burundi.
- Describe the health risks that someone might experience when practicing international medicine in a third world country like Burundi.
- Explain what it was like to be the first Osteopathic Physician to practice in Burundi.
Dr. Michael Brown is a graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his medical residency in Family and Community Medicine at Truman Medical Centers. Currently, he works for Meritas Health in North Kansas City, where he practices family medicine. Dr. Brown has held many positions within the American Osteopathic Association and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and currently serves on the MAOPS board where he holds the office of President-Elect. He lives in Smithville, MO with his wife and six children.

Logan Banks DO is a full-time medical missionary serving in Burundi, East Africa. He is a professor of Family Medicine and Obstetrics with Hope Africa University and serves as Director of Medical Education at the university’s rural teaching hospital, Kibuye Hope Hospital. He is also adjunct faculty with Cox Family Medicine Residency in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Banks attended medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Cox Family Medical Residency, in Springfield, Missouri, following by a fellowship in international family medicine. Dr. Banks is passionate about education and raising up the next generation of doctors and leaders, particularly in Africa.
