I, Alex, remember it like it was yesterday.
Lauren and I had just launched our brand new strategy and we were looking at our first $ 172.82 in blogging income (from affiliate sales).
Amazon Associates: $85.62
Clickbank Marketplace: $87.20
While other bloggers might not think of that as much, that first income meant the world to us.
$10 a day is an extra $300 per month. That equates to gas, groceries, and possibly an electricity bill if it’s not the middle of summer in Texas.
From October 2015 – December 2015, after 4 months of blogging, we had made $0 from our blog and were getting discouraged. In fact, it was only a few months before that when we started our first blog that failed miserably.
Because we had no help or guidance, Lauren and I just had to wing it based on the jumbled amount of free information (95% of which completely wasted our time) that we found online.
Crazy enough, Lauren and I had just figured out the first piece of the puzzle that eventually led us to becoming six-figure bloggers.
The $173 we ended up making in January of 2016 was shockingly life-altering.
It let us know that this whole -make money blogging thing was fo’ real.
Even more crazy was what happened next
Our income started doubling EVERY MONTH.
In February, we made $924 (a 525% increase!)
This was the month that I accidently stumbled on how to build a really bad version of an email -trust funnel and it actually worked!
We started to sell other people’s products (through affiliate marketing) every single day – consistently.
We would wake up every morning, hop out of bed, and run to check the affiliate marketplace we were using to check for new sales. And most days, we were making sales overnight while we were sleeping!
But it didn’t stop there
In March, we made $2,353 (that’s $28,236 per year blogging!)
95% of this income all came from free traffic sources and affiliate marketing.
What happened??? Why was everything growing so quickly for you guys?
Well, the short answer is that we learned a few skills and were just beginning to figure out how to put them together properly.
The longer answer is
- We learned how to get free traffic to our blog using social media.
We started to become the masters of Pinterest and driving organic traffic to our website.
- We started pairing other people’s successful products with this free traffic.
We began the process of sharing products we liked to our audience (also called affiliate marketing).
- We quickly figured out why 99% of people suck at affiliate marketing.
Like, really suck. Most of the articles we read online are pretty lame and unhelpful. They basically tell people to just throw links all over their website and pray the sales fall from the sky. Big shocker – that doesn’t work very well.
- We learned how to sell affiliate products consistently with an automated system.
This led to passive income on our blog, which was crucial for us to continue growing. Because we could set things and forget them, we could focus more on creating content.
- It was from selling these products and learning this process that set us up for amazing future success.
We didn’t realize it at the time, but because selling affiliate products was no easy task, we learned how to sell pretty much anything online. It was the main reason we have been able to take two separate blogs to over $20,000 per month profit each – on average.
