  • Everything really is possible, including turning a closet into an epic home office.
  • Avoid back pain, achy shoulders, and neck when you choose the right chair to avoid draining your productivity.
  • Once she finished the shelves, Austin realized she didn’t like the color and opted to paint them white.
  • Make sure the one you choose has a height-adjustable seat so that you could tuck it under your desk.
  • It only took Kaitlin Clark about three hours to transform an extra closet in her home studio into a functional workspace and vanity that’s also 100% reversible.

If you do love a good fragrance, you might want to keep an oil diffuser on your desktop. It reflects light better, adding to the brightness of the room, and makes the space look bigger. Opt for potted plants that stay alive without natural lighting. For example, the ZZ plant, or zamioculcas zamiifolia, adapts to low light levels. As long as you have several sources of light, you can turn off the ones you don’t need at the moment and create an ideal ambience in your home office.

Finding a new home for everything in your future home office may be a project of its own. Optimizing the storage systems in your other closets may help. But if you still have a few things left in your future office, optimize the storage for those, too.

The old red brick on the fireplace surround was replaced with stack stone. We found an amazing rug which tied all of the colors together further defining the gathering space. Russet and burnt orange became the accent color unifying each space. With a bit of whimsy, a rather unusual light fixture which looks like roots from a tree growing through the ceiling is a conversation piece.

The cabinets are painted Temptation Grey from Benjamin Moore. The counter tops are my favorite hard working quartzite Brown Fantasy. The backsplash is a combination of rustic wood and old tin ceiling like porcelain tiles. Trust us, if you do this, you’ll look forward to enjoying your morning coffee in here day after day. She started by painting the closet a bright yellow and then added the closet rods and custom shelving in the back corners of the space.

Simply remove the door entirely and hang a little curtain rod at the top of the door frame. You can opt for a built-in that you can conceal, or pick up a basic tension bar at any craft supply store. A full length curtain will serve the same purpose as a door – to keep the office concealed when you aren’t using it – and pulls and ties easily out of the way while you’re inside. The final look is less polished, but will cost a fraction of the price of installing a new closet door. Of course, you don’t want a cloffice with a door that will be in your way while you’re using it, or one that will disrupt the surrounding space if you use the office regularly. Accordion-style folding doors are another popular option; they take up less space than a regular door, even when covering a larger closet.

Because we convert closet to office switching up our decor as often as possible, we’re big fans of this Container Store Elfa shelving unit that attaches to wall-mounted rails. • Screw 1×2 cleats to the back, side and front walls to support the top .
  • You will want the longest support to run wall to wall.
  • Have one person hold the board level and in place, while the other uses the brad nailer to attach it to the wall.
  • While the wall is drying, cut and paint the 1×8 pine board to serve as a floating shelf at the top of the board & batten.
  • Design a cloffice you love, and you might actually look forward to working in it each day.
