But how can you explain to someone that you resigned your job to start a successful specialty website business?
How can you explain to your boss that you’ve spent the last several years working after hours at home trying to find out how to create and rank tiny specialized websites in Google, and that business has really taken off?
Although I’m not sure I used the right words, I managed to make my point. Although I was appreciative of my time spent working at the bank, I couldn’t wait to strike out on my own and devote my full-time efforts to creating successful websites.
It was such a relief to me that my supervisor agreed with my choice and was truly happy for me!

Did you realize that long-tail keywords generate 70% of all organic traffic from Google?
I didn’t initially.
Initially, I tried for years in vain to rank in Google for terms that were difficult to rank for, had large search traffic, or were keywords I was certain would bring me a lot of money.
It appeared to make sense at first. I believed I could make a ton of money every day if I could tap into the vein of those large numbers.
I was eventually able to change my approach after I stopped being blinded by the potential profits. I turned my attention to attempting to rank for short, simple phrases on the first page of Google.
I began to experience a trickle of traffic, followed by other trickles. These trickles soon became a heavy flow of traffic.
I quickly accumulated enough Google traffic to earn $10,000 per month only from Google Adsense.
Rewind to the present day.
I’ve done this for a long time. I’ve created countless prosperous websites. I am aware of a crucial fact.
You can’t simply luck into traffic. You must be able to execute a methodical strategy and have a plan.
I knew I needed to create a strategy that would target these long-tail keywords and generate a ton of organic traffic from Google in order to expand my little business.
To achieve that, I devised a system, and it was successful.

I run a blog at NichePursuits.com, one of the hardest domains to rank for on Google. Over 150,000 pageviews are viewed each month on Niche Pursuits, with Google providing the majority of the traffic. Over the past year, Niche Pursuits has made over $20,000 on average every month.
Software Firm
Long Tail Pro was entirely my creation. The traffic I was getting to Niche Pursuits (which originated from Google) and the organic traffic to LongTailPro.com was the main driver of that business.
LongTailPro.com continues to produce over 1,000 free visits from Google EVERY SINGLE DAY, which is still a difficult feat in the “keyword research” software market.
My blog on Long Tail Pro quickly rose in the rankings for a large number of “long tail” keywords linked to keyword research, and many of those site visits converted to paying clients.
It was a substantial business—many times what I was earning as a banker—but I won’t go into detail about the company’s financial history here.
A few years back, I sold the business for slightly under $2 million. Thank you, organic Google traffic!
Retail Business
I established an Amazon FBA business in 2014, and the merchandise soon began to sell there. I was overjoyed!
But I did something that many Amazon merchants would never think to do: I created my own content website, which I linked to my Amazon listings from.
The procedure was easy.
1: I would review competing items or compare them to the “best product” in my specialized market.
2: I wrote a number of articles—upwards of 100—targeting long-tail keywords that I knew would immediately get high rankings in Google.
The idea was to attract visitors who would perform a Google search for words like “best product…” (or whatever the keyword was) related to my industry, find my website ranking quite high in the results, and begin reading my article.
From this point on, some of them would click the link to my product on Amazon and purchase it there.
Consider this.
I was directing thousands of visits each month to my Amazon listings from my own website.
What impact did this have on my items’ Amazon rankings? Their Amazon ranking improved as a result, which increased sales.
The bottom line is that I was able to develop a sizable Amazon FBA business, which I eventually sold for $425,000 in December 2017, by attracting free organic Google traffic to my own website.
