Learning Objectives:
- Describe managing standard ankle sprains and understand the difference between an inversion ankle sprain and an external rotation high ankle sprain.
- Understand the main causes of heel pain and how best to manage these patients non-operatively.
- Identify common causes of forefoot pain and how to effectively care for these patients before sending to a specialist.
Dr. Cheney is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery. Ā He received his Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University, where he also served as team captain of the varsity men’s swim team. Ā Following graduation, Dr. Cheney attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and served for a number of years as a phase IV clinical instructor.
Dr. Cheney completed both his internship and orthopedic residency at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Ā Following his residency, he completed a foot and ankle fellowship with the Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ā His practice emphasis includes ankle arthroplasty, heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, fractures, and foot/ankle sport injuries. Ā In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Cheney currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a Foot & Ankle Clinical Reviewer for Orthopedics, a peer-reviewed journal covering all aspects of adult and pediatric orthopedic surgery and treatment.
