Master Design Fundamentals
Every Motion Designer needs to know how to design, and for more than just beautiful still images. You also need to know how to create compositions with motion in mind. If youre looking to add this crucial skill to your toolkit, look no further than this course. Youll learn important Design Principles and foundations by using them in projects that mimic real world client briefs, building your design knowledge while putting new techniques into practice right away. By the end of this course, youll have the foundations you need to further explore the depths of designing for motion.
This course is made with beginners in mind. By the end of it, youll know the design principles that every designer should understand. Youll also be ready to move onto other courses, like Design Bootcamp, where you can put this foundational knowledge to the test.
Knowing how to use Photoshop and Illustrator for this course is an absolute must. You dont need to know everything about the program, but having the basics down is necessary. If you havent used these programs before, check out our Photoshop and Illustrator Unleashed course where youll learn industry-standard tools and techniques to start creating artwork right away.
Course Curriculum
Week 1
Meet your classmates and get comfy with the course format. Youll also get a taste of the Design Principles youll be learning in this course.
Week 2
This week youll be introduced to the very important role of contrast in composition through the use of positive and negative space.
Week 3
Its time to dive deep into creating compositions that work as a series meant to be put into motion. Youll explore how to put emphasis on important elements, and begin working with value and color.
Week 4
This week is a focus week, a chance to catch up on course work and material. Youll also take a look at what its like to have design as your career.
Week 5
Youll continue to refine your type setting skills with a complex typographical challenge. Youll also get a lesson in simplicity by using simple shapes to communicate big ideas.
Week 6
Its time to put your new design skills to the test by working on your final project. Youll get to take a full set of boards from concept to finish, while picking up some helpful tips and tricks along the way.
Week 7 & 8
The final 2 weeks of class are Extended Critique. You can use this time to catch up, complete your final project, then turn it in for critique.
