Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, this organization planned to launch a New and Improved Nurse Residency Transition to Practice Program (NRTTPP), designed under the guidelines provided by the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program, in July 2020. Ā The organization was committed to excellence in onboarding new nurses to improve retention, RN satisfaction, and patient outcomes. Ā With the closing of nursing schools and the early release of nursing students eligible to begin work in May, accelerated measures were necessary to continue the commitment and offer the NRTTPP. Ā Preceptor standardization, policy revision, and didactic offerings were not finalized. Ā Additionally, the Designated Training Unit for the NRs was repurposed for a COVID Patient Cohort Unit. Ā PPE challenges made utilizing this unit for training no longer practical. Ā Space planning posed new challenges in plans to create a cohesive cohort and to provide adequate socialization. Ā Despite the unsurmountable obstacles, the NRTTPP successfully launched in June 2020.
