Fa Men Quan (Dharma style)Chinese languageFa Men Quan is a rare martial art practiced only in Jiangxi Province, one of three local styles there along with Zi Men and Ying Men Boxing.
Its origins are not clear but it is believed that the style comes from southern Shaolin Temple in Fujian Province.
The style has a very systematic approach to teaching, starting from basic methods that develop root (Horse Riding stance), agile footwork, power, striking/kicking ability, hardness, etc.
, to various empty hand and weapons routines and then to fighting practice.
The routines are divided into two categories – “Galloping Horse” with stress on fighting skills, and “Still Standing” with focus on root, leg strength and whole body power.
The style emphasizes natural movements, uses relaxed, fast movements with hardness hidden in softness.
It applies agile footwork to approach the opponent from unexpected angles, strikes in close range, does not use brute force.
