Volume 16 – Mook Jong Training

The mook jong (wooden man dummy) is one of the most useful pieces of training equipment for the Jeet Kune Do practitioner. This unique piece of training equipment comes from the Wing Chun Gung Fu system. Wing Chun has a form that they practice on the mook jong. Jeet Kune Do practitioners prefer to train freestyle on the mook jong, having no set way or pattern. You just have to use your imagination a little bit and be creative. The upper arms of the dummy represent high-line strikes or blocks from an opponent. The lower arm represents low-line strikes or blocks. Bridging, or sliding leverage striking, on the mook jong toughens your wrists and forearms for hard contact with an opponent’s arms. You can bridge to the inside or the outside of the upper arms. Just these drills/applications alone make the mook jong a very worthwhile piece of equipment to own!

The material taught and demonstrated on these videos comes from all three of Bruce Lee’s major schools in the United States (Seattle, Oakland and L.A. Chinatown). It is by far the most complete presentation of this material, and will probably remain so for all of time! It represents my life’s work in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do, and will stand for all of time as my body of work to preserve Bruce Lee’s original teaching, training and fighting methods.
