In this lecture changes in prostate cancer epidemiology will be discussed along with controversies with prostate cancer screenings and advances in prostate imaging to better select patients.
Goals & Objectives:
- Outline an overview of the PSA antigen, prostate cancer (incidence/prevalence, mortality), and screening guidelines.
- Describe potential limitations and false positives (including BPH) of the PSA test.
- Develop the referral values of PSA in men of different ages.
Dr. Katie Murray is a graduate of A.T. Still University, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation, she completed her residency in urology at the University of Kansas and a fellowship in urological oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Murray is the Assistant Professor of Surgery for the University of Missouri, Department of Surgery and the Medical Director of Urologic Oncology at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center both in Columbia, MO. She is also the Assistant Professor of Surgery, Research Clinician Tenure Track for the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Dr. Murray is a member of several associations and a very active member of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons where she currently serves on the Education and Convention Committee.
