This lecture will review the updated 2019 IDSA/ATS guidelines for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia and will discuss the use of specific diagnostic testing.
Learning Objectives:
- Briefly define community-acquired pneumonia, review surface level epidemiology and causative organisms
- Review of the 2019 ATS/IDSA updated guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of adult CAP
- Review common markers of inflammation and discuss some basic utility, particularly procalcitonin

Andrew Lester DO is a PGY3 resident at the Montana Family Medicine Residency, in Billings, Montana. He attended medical school at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Glendale, Arizona, and he plans to practice in outpatient rural medicine.
